The 1994 Group of research-intensive universities welcomes the publication of ‘One Step Beyond: Making the Most of Postgraduate Education’

Commenting on the publication today of ‘One Step Beyond: Making the Most of Postgraduate Education’, Paul Marshall, Executive Director of the 1994 Group said:

“We welcome the conclusions and recommendations of the report. The UK has a proud record of achievement in the delivery of the highest quality postgraduate education and it is right that this should be recognised and celebrated.

“The challenge now is to build upon the findings of the review to enable the HE sector to make a further step change in the promotion of the quality of the UK experience to the international market; working collaboratively with employers to deliver the highest levels of skills to their workforce, and to increase the numbers of highly qualified home students from all social backgrounds who can to progress to postgraduate study.

“Central to the achievement of these important recommendations must be a recognition that the necessary funding, environment, and support must be provided to enhance the student experience of all postgraduate students. In this regard, we welcome the direction of travel set out in the report which recognises that the quality of provision is more important that the volume of activity.”

“We look forward to the response of Government, the Funding bodies and other sector stakeholders to the report.”
