FUTSAL tournament

First ever FUTSAL tournament at University of Leicester

The Sports and Recreation Department ran its first ever FUTSAL tournament on Sunday 30 May 2010.

The tournament was a culmination of 6 weeks of friendly fixtures and training that had been taking place at the Manor Road sports hall. Over 20 students were involved and the eventual winners were ABCDE F.C.

The tournament was the result of eleven students completing their FUTSAL qualification as part of this year's Coaching in the Community project. The qualification allows them to deliver sessions and referee FUTSAL games.

FUTSAL is a small sided variant of football played indoors. The ball is smaller with less bounce than a regulation football. The game originated in South America but is now sweeping Europe.

British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) have recently added FUTSAL to their list of championship sports and the University of Leicester is hoping to enter in the future.

If you are interested in taking part then please email Matthew Weir on mw80@le.ac.uk.
