Summary of interview item: Describes the pit shafts and workings of Snibston Colliery where he worked as a miner. Recalls in detail an accident when the cage fell to the bottom of the lift shaft, submerging the occupants, and how the incident was dealt with by the management. Describes the winder responsible for the accident and how those involved returned to work at the pit the next day as a way of dealing with the shock. Also recalls they were told not to mention the accident by the pit manager, as it was not reported to the inspectors. Says he was a miner for 51 years.
