Summary of interview item: Leicester Shops. Compilation of interview extracts recalling the shops of Leicester, shopping and the experience of working in some of these shops in the early part of the 20th century. Recollections of the shops in Leicester, such as Herrington's, Joseph Johnson's, Morgan and Squires and the Cardoma Café, are given. More detailed descriptions of Simpkin and James and Wand's Chemist in the Haymarket are recalled by people who worked in these shops, and they also describe their work and working conditions. The shops on Humberstone Gate are recalled before the building of Lewis's, along with the shops in the Market Place. Contributors to the compilation are: B. Hopkins, M. Lewis, F. Smith, B. Lyons, J.
