Summary of interview item: Edwardian Leicester. Compilation of edited extracts from interviews recalling Leicester in the Edwardian period. Recollections of Christmas festivities, decorations in Granby Street, Leicester, ice cream vendors and the cheese fair held in the Market Place. Details of pawning clothing, working for a blacksmith and working for a doctor are given. Memories of shops, including the Leicester Coffee House Company outlets and public houses in Leicester, such as the Globe, are recalled along with the ending of the Boer War and death of Queen Victoria. The sudden expansion of Leicester is remembered and the adult school in Kibworth described along with the entertainments to be found in Leicester, such as Catlin's pierrots and the five playhouses.
