Summary of interview item: Holidays. Compilation of interview extracts recalling the different holidays taken by people in Leicester in the early decades of the 20th century. Children's school summer camp at Mablethorpe and sending poor children to Mablethorpe Children's Holiday Home for a holiday are recalled. Day trips to local attractions such as the Japanese Tea Gardens and Boat-house are described along with walks to Bradgate Park, Swithland Woods and Mountsorrel. Sunday school treats, picnic outings are recalled too. The various kinds of transport for those who could afford to go further afield is described, including a coal truck converted into a charabanc for the summer, taxis, tandems and railway trains. Boarding houses and catering available in resorts such as Skegness, Great Yarmouth and Blackpool are described in detail. The entertainment in these resorts is also described, particularly the Pierrots.
