The village atmosphere of Belgrave in the early part of the 20th century is remembered, along with the people who lived there and Belgrave's proximity to the countryside. Details of the pawn shop, local entertainment, the Working Men's club and the local police are given. The Belgrave baker, the baths in Cossington Street, the canal bargees and the movement of cattle to market are also recalled. The National School in Belgrave and Mellor Street school are described as are day trips out and local fairs.
