Royal Naval Guild of Bellringers

AGM 2010
Outing Report

RNGB - Outing on Saturday 6th March 2010

On Saturday 6th March 2010 twenty-four members and guests of the Royal Naval Guild of Bellringers mustered in Alton, Hants, for the spring meeting and AGM.  Our first port of call was the brand new 6cwt six at All Saints, their musical quality may in part be due to the church’s association with the Royal Marines Band of Music, who were responsible for raising a large proportion of the funds through a series of concerts and who, indeed, donated the tenor bell which bears their name.  The sunshine followed us as we moved onto Selborne and enjoyed some good ringing on the eight.  Rations were waiting for us at the Spreadeagle at Liss and suitably fortified we headed to nearby St Mary’s where the churchyard was awash with colourful croci.  Here we produced some quality ringing, including some two spliced, and the large balcony provided a suitable backdrop for a photo call.  Our last ring of the day was the ten at East Meon, these proved more of a challenge, but some respectable Stedman Caters was achieved.  As is custom for the AGM meeting, a short service was held, officiated over by the Rev Terry Louden, who was able to join members afterwards in the church hall for a bring-and-share tea.  The Guild President, Joe Kidd, called the AGM to order and efficiently navigated us through the customary business.  The President was re-elected for a further year and John Stott was elected Treasurer.  A vote of thanks was given to John Dallen, the retiring treasurer for his eight years of faithful number crunching.  The final business was to thank Bill Harris for organising a very enjoyable day.  Members then slipped moorings and proceeded independently to their home berths.  The next Guild event is a Quarter Peal day programmed in April.
