Jennifer Browning BA MA

Field Officer

Jennifer achieved her BA in Archaeology at the University of Nottingham and a subsequent MA in Landscape Studies at the University of Leicester. Jennifer is a member of the International Council for Archaeozoology (ICAZ), the Professional Zooarchaeology Group (PZG) and the Association for Environmental Archaeology (AEA).

Jennifer has been working on animal bones since 1998, reporting on assemblages large and small both for ULAS and external clients and is a key member of the Animal Bone Consultancy. Recent projects include the analysis of several large faunal assemblages from urban excavations in Leicester and two Iron Age assemblages, Humberstone and Hallaton (both shortly to be published). Although greatly enjoying the varied nature of her work, particular interests are faunal remains in the urban context and Iron Age religious and settlement archaeology.

During her time at ULAS she has carried out a wide variety of archaeological fieldwork, ranging from earthwork surveys and fieldwalking through to watching briefs, evaluations and excavations. She has directed rural excavations at Anstey and Whissendine and supervised on the recent Highcross project. Jennifer has produced a substantial number of archaeological reports, including desk-based assessments and holds City and Guilds qualifications in AutoCAD and Desk Top Publishing. She designed and produced the ULAS 2002-3 Review.
