Andrew Hyam BSc MA PIFA
Senior Supervisor
Andrew first studied archaeology as part of the University of Leicester Adult Education Certificate course in 1991, whilst following his first career in polymer chemistry. He worked on many volunteer sites before studying for his BSc in Archaeology at the University in 1998. During his time as a student he took part in prehistoric excavations in Southern Italy and occasionally as a site assistant for ULAS.
Andrew joined ULAS in 2001 and has been involved in projects ranging from the prehistoric to post-medieval. Building surveys and appraisals are now a key part of his work. Outside ULAS he has worked on a number of archaeological projects including a monastery in France and an archaeological survey on the island of Molokai, Hawaii. Since 2004 he has helped supervise and run the undergraduate training excavations at Leicester Abbey. He also helps supervise the Wallingford Burh to Borough project excavations. He is also regularly involved in outreach activities with the public.
Andrew completed a Masters Degree in Archaeology and Heritage Management in 2004 via the Distance Learning Unit at Leicester University. He also holds a Certificate in Architectural History from Vaughan College, and is currently employed as a senior supervisor with ULAS.
