About the SEAL project
The aim of SEAL is to explore viable and preferred futures for learning in formal education through and with the Second Life environment. SEAL will create communities of learners, teachers, technologists and creative practitioners who will interact in the Second Life environment itself. The events will focus on 'freeing up' of mindsets and working creatively to develop practical, sustainable, , engaging and advanced approaches to using Web2.0 technologies for learning and teaching
- use a Web 2.0 environment to engage learners and explore the potential futures for education
- attract learners from schools, colleges and Higher Education into Second Life, as well as those already taking part in the platform and offer them a safe, interesting and productive experience
- use Second Life as a platform for ‘unlearning’ previous thinking about education
- use trends, visioning and scenarios to develop and explore choices between preferred and viable futures in an engaged and safe way on Second Life.
- surface, elicit and explore preferred and viable futures of learners in an engaged and safe way on Second Life
- attract learners who may not ‘attend’ events about education in the physical world, but who may be attracted and engaged by virtual events
- encourage individuals to contribute creative new ideas and prepare for real-world experiences.
- contribute to the Second Life Educational wiki to research the intervention throughout to produce viable model of direct benefit to educational institutions at a strategic and change process level
- establish the conditions and approaches needed for creating and running engaging ‘visioning events’ about the future for learning in Second Life.
