Appointment: Grant CharmanGrant Charman has been appointed Capital Development Manager in the University's Estates Office as from March 1, 2003
In 1994, Grant left the RHA to jointly
form a new Birmingham office for Currie & Brown, one of the world’s
largest firms of surveyors and stayed with the company for six years, becoming
an Associate Partner in that time. He was instrumental in the establishment of
the firm’s quality procedures for Project Management as well as being one of
the lead figures for healthcare work throughout the UK, working on projects up
to £200 million in value. Grant was the Project Manager on both the
Derbyshire and Bristol Children’s Hospitals, the only dedicated children’s
hospitals built during the 20th century. In 2000, Grant left Currie & Brown to
establish his own company, specialising in healthcare PFI projects, and worked
on a number of schemes with values well over £150 million. His experience of working for client
bodies, consultant practices and with the contracting industry provides a wide
knowledge of the industry that should benefit the University as it continues
with the exciting development plan currently underway. He is married to Valerie, who is a Manager
for a national firm of Removals Consultants, and has a step-daughter who works
in a laboratory. Grant is also involved in the management of the Coventry Blaze professional ice hockey club.
