BSc and MPhys Physics Degrees at the University of Leicester

Within the degree scheme the Department offers to students, from various backgrounds and with a variety of aspirations, a range of courses with the following features.

  • Degrees are based on a flexible core and options programme.
  • The core courses provide the subject specific and transferable skills for careers in physics or in industry and commerce.
  • The options allow deeper or broader study of specialist subjects depending on the inclination of the student.
  • The rate of progression through the core material is variable within minimum and maximum requirements.
  • Students on all degree streams have a free choice of options provided only that they satisfy the minimum requirements of the degree.
This provides an enormous variety of patterns of study to suit individual needs.

The MPhys degree is intended to provide the basis for work in research both inside and outside academia. The BSc degree is aimed at students who intend to follow careers in physics or physics-related areas; it may be suitable in certain circumstances as a qualification for research and, conversely, as a valuable general qualification for commerce and industry.
