BSc Medical Physics Degree at the University of Leicester

Within the degree scheme the Department offers to students, from various backgrounds and with a variety of aspirations, a range of courses with the following features.

  • Degrees are based on a flexible core and options programme.
  • The core courses provide the subject specific and transferable skills for careers in physics or in industry and commerce.
  • The rate of progression through the core material is variable within minimum and maximum requirements.
  • The options allow deeper or broader study of specialist subjects depending on the inclination of the student.
  • Options in the first year give an overview of medical physics
  • Options in the second and subsequent years form an increasing fraction of the curriculum
  • The course is taught in conjuction with the Medical Physics unit of the Leicester Royal Infirmary
  • Students on the Physics with Medical Physics degree stream have a free choice from the complete options list provided only that they satisfy the minimum requirements for the degree.

This provides an enormous variety of patterns of study to suit individual needs.

The BSc degree is aimed at students who intend to follow careers in physics or physics-related areas and is a recognised qualification for entry to MSc and PhD courses in Medical Physics which provide the starting point for a career in Medical Physics.
