Dr. Derek Raine

Dr Derek Raine is a senior lecturer in the Department of Physics & Astronomy. His research has ranged over Relativity, Cosmology, General relativistic quantum field theory, Astro-physics and more recently Biophysics as well as papers in science education. He directed the approach to resource-based learning in Physics at Leicester adopted in 1980's; first in Mathematical Physics courses and later across the core curriculum. He also pioneered a number of specific developments including one of the first computer - simulated astronomy experiments (supported by the Nuffield Foundation), general physics projects (supported byinternal Enterprise funding), a student Internet Journal and a Web Design Company (LTSN development project grants). In addition to being course director for the i-Science degree, he is implementing an F D T L 4 project on PBL (Problem - Based Learning) in Physics & Astronomy, project L e A P.
