Aims and Objectives

The aims and objectives of the British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) organization are to encourage the study of the physical sciences in the United Kingdom. This is achieved by setting participating schools, annually, two stimulating physics competitions;

1. The A2, or equivalent, level competition is the British Physics Olympiad.

2. The GCSE, or equivalent level, competition is the Physics Challenge.

These competitions are designed to test a student's basic understanding of the principles of physics taught at the A2 and GCSE levels and enables him, or her, to compare their attainment with those of students from all over the United Kingdom.

All UK schools receive, from the British Physics Olympiad, full information concerning the competitions at the beginning of the academic year, in September.

This website is hosted on behalf of the British Physics Olympiad by the Department of Physics & Astronomy of the University of Leicester. The site is the responsibility of Dr Brin Cooke. Email bac@le.ac.uk.
