The post holder will have a research interest in any area of communications and media. It is also expected that they will demonstrate strong quantitative and qualitative research methods skills. Unlike the standard New Blood Lectureship, until the fourth year in this position the post-holder will combine spending time on their own research interests with providing a wider research support role within the Department of Media and Communication. The teaching requirement outlined in the generic New Blood job description above will be substituted by this research support function.

The post will eventually be positioned within a new research institute to be launched within the Department of Media and Communication. This Institute will comprise the research division of the Department and will include members from a range of disciplines across the University. It will be headed by a Director at professorial level. As well as having the opportunity to pursue their own research interests, the post-holder will work in a small team with two Graduate Research Assistants providing support to a range of research projects involving other academic members of staff of the Department and other members of the Institute from across the University. The post-holder will also have a research facilitation role, working closely with the Institute’s Director to promote inter-disciplinary research in communications and media in the University.

After the fourth year, the postholder will be expected to cover normal duties shown below. For the first four years, the postholder will fulfil the duties specific to the New Blood lectureships. The postholder will be responsible to the relevant Head of Department, and will undertake research, teaching, administration and other activities supporting the work of the Department and developing and enhancing its reputation, both internally and external to the University.
