At Leicester we have a very wide range of study opportunities for undergraduates, taught postgraduates and research postgraduates. Our courses range across world history from the early middle ages to the contemporary world. Our teaching is rated excellent by the QAA and we scored a Grade 5 in RAE 2001 for research of international quality.

Expertise and Variety
The Leicester School of Historical Studies is home to 400 undergraduate students studying for a degree in History or Contemporary History, or on one of our specialist joint degrees which link History with American Studies, Ancient History, Archaeology, English, Politics, or International Relations. Our courses are taught by more than 30 historians, which makes the School of Historical Studies at the University of Leicester one of the biggest of its kind.
The School has specialist teaching and research strengths in Urban History, English Local History, Medieval History, Eighteenth-Century History, Twentieth-Century History, and Economic History. We are also home to the Centre for Urban History, the Centre for English Local History, the Centre for American Studies (with the Department of English), the Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust Studies, and the Medieval Research Centre.
