This degree has been designed to give students an understanding of two disciplines which - as taught at Leicester - share a preoccupation with such central issues as the historical development of the modern state, the nature and function of government, the global expansion of European ideas and institutions, the theory and practice of international relations, and the history of political thought.
The structure of the course is based on the assumption that a sophisticated
grasp of both political ideas and institutions depends on a clear perception
of the historical context in which these have originated and subsequently
developed.
