The disciplines of history, ancient history and archaeology offer different but complementary ways of studying the past.
Our degree in Ancient History and History will teach students whose interests are primarily historical rather than archeological to explore the sources for both the classical world and for later periods. There are two core intellectual links:
- The broad transition from classical antiquity to medieval times, a key development in world history and western civilisation; and
- The rediscovery and appropriation of the classical past in later periods up to and including modern times, and the route by which we frequently feel the impact of classical thought today.
