The degree has been especially designed for students who wish to study both International Relations and History in depth and to explore the vital interaction between the two subjects.
The degree utilises the strength of the Politics and International Relations Department in the field of International Relations (IR) in partnership with teaching and research expertise from the School of Historical Studies. The BA programme is based on the assumption that International Relations are the product of historical change and that the study of one necessitates a consideration of the other.
You will receive training in the methods and fundamentals of political and historical inquiry and apply this learning to areas of specialisation embracing both sides of the degree. As you advance, your own interests will find expression in the modules you select and dissertation work you undertake. You will be able to concentrate on the most vital issues affecting the modern world and understand their historical antecedents. From the world's foremost powers - the United States, the EU, Russia and China - to those nations impacted by their behaviour, you will leave with a degree well-suited to range of vocations, from diplomacy and government, to media and finance.
