[The inhabitants of the town of Châteaurenaud in the élection of Montargis have not drawn up any tax rolls]. Each time they have been summoned to obey His Majesty's orders, and to satisfy the payment of their taxes, they have assembled in numbers of 500 or 600 people at the sound of the tocsin. The example of their impunity has brought the rest of the parishes to the same disobedience. All this has been fomented by the most powerful and well-to-do citizens of the town of Cha^teaurenaud, who wish to exempt themselves from taxes at the expense of the poor citizens. In order to remedy this, the sieur de Bragelongne, intendant of justice at Orlans, went to the town and was obliged to arrest and have removed to the prisons of Montargis the lieutenant of the said town, his brother, and one of his nephews who are noted as among the most seditious citizens and the authors of the rebellion and disobedience...
