Investigating Virtual Globe Technology in Teaching
Virtual Globes have been in serious use in Higher Education as educational tools since the introduction of Google Earth in 2005. However, unlike other technology enhanced learning (TEL) tools such as VLEs and animations there is little research to date into the effectiveness of using Virtual Globes in teaching. In this Fellowship we will investigate a powerful feature: recording virtual flights in Google Earth (tours). By comparing tours with equivalent paper based teaching, we will investigate what the advantages and disadvantages are in using such tools for teaching and provide best practice advice for other educators.
