Measured and estimated d18O and dD values of fluids in the Alpine Schist, New Zealand (after Jenkin, Craw & Fallick, 1994).

Red: metamorphic fluids in host rocks and deformed veins.
Pale Blue: fluids in open fissure veins.
Green: fluids in late fractures.

An important point from this paper is that while fluids in metamorphic rocks may have oxygen and hydrogen isotope compositions which lie within the "magmatic" box, they do not have to be magmatic in origin (in the Alpine Schist there are no contemporaneous magmatic intrusions and no indication of any at depth). The "metamorphic" fluids which deposited the post-peak metamorphic veins in the Alpine Schist are probably just 18O-shifted local meteoric waters.
