Ph.D. (1988) Geochemistry (Department of Geology, University of Glasgow *) "Stable isotope studies in the Caledonides of S.W. Connemara, Ireland".

Post Doctoral Research Assistant (1988-1994) Isotope Geosciences Unit, Scottish Universities Research and Reactor Centre (SURRC) *, Glasgow. With Dr A.E. Fallick, studied stable isotopes in high temperature geological processes and isotope exchange in water-rock interaction.
