Context and exemplification

The kidneys, liver and lungs are all involved in the removal of toxic products of metabolism from the blood. The liver also metabolises toxins that have been ingested. The kidneys also play a major role in the control of the water potential of the blood.

Assessable learning outcomes

Candidates should be able to:
(j) outline the problems that arise from kidney failure and discuss the use of renal dialysis and transplants for the treatment of kidney failure (HSW6a, 6b, 7c)
