The University of Leicester's Advanced Microscopy Centre (AMC) is a Faculty of Sciences facility that was funded through HEFCE's Stragetic Research and Infrastructure Fund (SRIF 2).
The AMC supports major experimental research activities in the Departments of Chemistry, Engineering and Physics and aims to promote the advancement of multidisciplinary research activities across the Physical and Biological Sciences.
One of the key aims of the facility is for training students and postdoctoral workers in microscopical techniques and for supporting high quality research. This is supported by in house training and a broad-based research colloquim series.
The Advanced Microscopy Centre comprises of four instruments, a UHV STM, an SPM, a FEGSEM with EBSD and EDX and a TEM with EDX and the associated specimen preparation equipment for preparing thin foils or carbon replicas.
All the instruments are available to all users (University staff, postgraduates and undergraduates) within the University and particularly within the Faculty of Science.
We also welcome industrial users ( see consultancy ).
The Centre comprises of four instruments, a UHV STM, an SPM, a FEGSEM and a TEM which are spread across the Departments of Chemistry, Engineering and Physics.
