About Us

Mission Statement

The Forensic Research Centre (FRC) will be a centre of excellence for multidisciplinary research in crime, criminal justice, and forensic science, and will act as a focus for this research across the University of Leicester from a range of disciplines. It will provide a central point of contact for external agencies to access forensic expertise at the University, and attract students with an interest in conducting research in the crime and forensic area.

The Centre’s vision is to establish itself as an internationally recognised research centre that attracts external funding from research councils, charities, and the EU, and students, visitors, and internationally renowned scholars from the UK and worldwide.

 

Aims

The Forensic Research Centre aims to provide a focus for research in crime, criminal justice, and forensic science across the University. The Centre’s membership is drawn from across a range of university departments and facilities, including Astronomy, Chemistry, Criminology, Engineering, Genetics, Law, Forensic Pathology, Physics, Psychiatry and Psychology.

  • To facilitate networking of staff across departments through the creation of a research interests and skills database that members can access.

  • To encourage co-operation between members from different departments to facilitate research bids and consultancy.

  • To arrange conferences to encourage further networking and dissemination of research in the area.

  • To act as a conduit for staff applying for research grants and contracts involving multidisciplinary teams across the University.
