Welcome!
Hello and welcome to The University of Leicester Dictionary of Slang. I am a final year student at the University and have compiled this glossary over about two months as part of a course on Slang and the World Wide Web. It contains 100 words that are considered to be slang and that are used by a group of people aged between 21 to 25 who are both male and female and from a diversity of areas and backgrounds. This gives a wide range of slang terms that may not be available or understood outside of the age group but which are now made more accessible to other people.
Not only does this glossary give examples of slang but it also gives information on:
- reasons as to why it was compiled and how this was done, in the ‘About’ section.
-information about the site and how to use the dictionary in the ‘Search’ section.
-Further information and sources can also be found in the by following ‘Links’.
This glossary is not a complete compilation of all the slang words used by people in this age group, but is an example of the main ones used by a small group of people. Slang changes constantly and so there may be variations on spelling and understanding with certain words that are present.
