The pods provide a highly nutritious vegetable. Primarily used by the Asians (the above show imported fresh and tinned pods) their use by other peoples is increasing


The leaves and flowers may also be consumed. The leaves contain high levels of essential vitamins and protein. The tree shown above was observed in a village in Malawi where the leaves are eaten as a vegetable. The trees are also utilised as live fence posts
