| Professor of Engineering, Pro-Vice-Chancellor University of Leicester, Leicester, LE1 7RH Tel: (+44)/(0) 116 252 2323 Fax: (+44)/(0) 116 255 8691 e-mail: John.Fothergill@leicester.ac.uk John Fothergill was educated at Slough Grammar School From 1980 to 1984 he worked as a Senior Research Engineer at the Standard Telecommunication Laboratories (STL) Ltd., Harlow (now BNR (Europe)) where he was responsible for organising a small team in research and development on products and materials related to high-voltage polymeric power cables. In 1984 he came to the University of Leicester with special responsibility for teaching electrical materials. His research interests are in electrical degradation, breakdown and ageing in polymers (on which he has co-authored a book), polymer nano-composites, and dielectrics applied to medical applications. He is also interested in improving engineering education, singing (mainly Mozart) and sailing dinghies on Rutland water. He is a fellow of the IEE (Chartered Engineer),
a member of the Institute of Physics (Chartered Physicist) and a Fellow
of the IEEE. |
