Antonios Tzimas was born in Volos (Greece) in 1979 and he studied at the 5th Senior High School of Volos. He then studied at the University of Leicester and achieved a BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering as well as an MSc in Advanced Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His final year project was investigating "Light emission from solid insulation prior to breakdown subject to electrical tree growth" under the supervision of Professors J.C. Fothergill and L.A. Dissado. Subsequently he developed an interest in understanding dielectric phenomena and the characteristics of electrical breakdown. He is currently undertaking a Ph.D degree the topic of which "the investigation of ageing markers in Cross-Link Polyethylene", sponsored by Borealis AB (Sweden) at the University of Leicester.
