Charles Pollock received a BSc(Eng) degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London in 1985 and a PhD degree, also in Electrical Engineering, from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in 1989. In 1989 he also obtained a Diploma of Imperial College (DIC).
He was appointed as a Lecturer at the University of Warwick in 1988 where he established the Power Electronics and Drives Research Group. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer and then Reader in 1994 and 1998 respectively and in 1999 was appointed to the Chair of Electrical Energy Conversion at the University of Leicester where he is now Head of the Electrical and Electronic Power Engineering Group.
Professor Pollock's principle research interests in motors and electronic drives include switched reluctance, flux switching, hybrid stepping and induction machines. In power electronics his research includes power supplies for lasers and welding and FACTS (flexible AC transmission systems). He is Director of the Centre for Advanced Electronically Controlled Drives which is an industrial research consortium which carries out fundamental and applied research and development for its Member companies.
