Mike Warrington was born in Halifax, England in 1956. He was awarded a B.Sc. degree in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Durham in 1978 and a Ph.D. degree from the University of Leicester in 1986.

From 1981 to 1991 he was a Research Associate in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester. In 1991 he was appointed to a Lectureship in the Department of Engineering, and was subsequently promoted to Senior Lecturer in 1999, to Reader in 2005, and to a Personal Chair in 2007.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, a past Chairman of the IEE East Midlands' Electronics and Control Section and is currently the Chairman of Leicester District of the East Midlands Branch of the IEE. In 1999 he was invited to chair the Radiocommunications Agency's Technical Working Party on HF Propagation and Ionospheric Effects, which has evolved into Ofcom's Task Group on Ionospheric Effects on Radio Systems. Mike is an active member of the COST-296 Action "Mitigation of Ionospheric Effects on Radio Systems (MIERS)", as a UK National Representative on the Management Committee and as co-leader of Worging Group 2 "Advanced Terrestrial Systems" and of the Work Package on "Radar and radiolocation".

Mike's present research activities are centred around a number of projects concerning the influence of the propagation medium on the performance of long range communications and radio direction finding systems.
