Children's Literature SIG

A new EA Special Interest Group (SIG) has been set up by two Fellows with experience and interest in the Primary School Years. It is called ‘Children’s Literature’ and intends to include in its repertoire children’s non-fiction literature as well as fiction of all kinds. In our digital age, how teachers support reading on screen as well as reading traditional print texts is bound to be a major concern. So while treasuring the classics, and texts in traditional forms and media, the group intends to consider innovative new texts.

Exciting initiatives were discussed at the April 2010 English 4-11 editorial board meeting, including working towards a collection of ideas and case studies round the Dickens 2012 celebrations.

While the group is convened by two Fellows (Eve Bearne and Margaret Mallett), others are welcome to join and to attend the meetings; there will be at least one meeting each year. The dates of the meetings and details about progress and initiatives will be on this part of the EA website.

This EA SIG is open to all members of the English Association and UKLA. If you are not a member but are interested in joining the SIG, or if you would like more information about the activities of the SIG please contact the convenors
