English 4-11 Picture Book Award

The 2012 Annual General Meeting took place at 5.00 on Wednesday 16 May at the British Academy, 10-11 Carlton House Terrace, London.

It was an international occasion, with new Fellows and award winners travelling from France, Germany, Finland and Japan to join us.

The 2012 Fellows were welcomed to the English Association by Pamela Bickley, Chair of the Fellowship Committee. Peter Robinson, FEA, read from A Mutual Friend: Poems for Charles Dickens, before announcing the launch of a new interest group - the Poetry Network.

The winning poets of the 2012 Fellows' Poetry Prize Competition were announced by chair of judges Philip Gross. Gill Learner and Aidan Baker then read their poems - John Lucas standing in for C.J. Allen who was unable to attend.

Association Chair Adrian Barlow then presented the award for the Beatrice White Prize to Dr Penny Granger.

Presentation of the English 4-11 Picture Book Awards for the best books of 2011 was preceded by a wonderful audio-visual presentation, produced by English 4-11 editor Rob Sanderson, focussing on all the shortlisted and winning books. The awards were presented by Editorial Board members Margaret Mallett and Eve Bearne.

The meeting was followed by a reception in the Mall Room in honour of the new Fellows and Award winners.
