Two free oral history training sessions

In Leicester and Nottingham this summer there will be two free oral history training events being run by Colin Hyde of the East Midlands Oral History Archive. The first is on Wednesday 24th July at New Walk Museum, Leicester, and the second is on Wednesday 7th August at the Galleries of Justice, Nottingham.  Both events will run from 10am to 3.30pm and will cover:

  • Project planning

  • Using recording equipment

  • Good interviewing technique

  • Copyright & ethics

  • Archiving

From 2010 to 2012 EMOHA, in conjunction with Leicester Arts & Museums Service, led a Heritage Lottery Funded project, Migration Stories, which captured people’s stories of migration into the East Midlands. Participating groups learnt to use video to record their stories and the results can be seen on both the project website – http://www.migrationstories.co.uk/ – and You Tube.

Throughout the training sessions reference will be made to Migration Stories and the lessons learnt from the project. The emphasis will be on using video to record oral histories but will also cover audio recording.

This event will be ideal for any community group, museum, library, or interested individual who is thinking about recording oral histories or starting an oral history project. Through the Migration Stories Heritage Lottery Fund project we are able to offer this training free of charge, lunch will be provided and there are bursaries available for covering transport costs.

For further details and to book a place on either session contact Colin Hyde on ch38@le.ac.uk or (0116) 2525065.
