Not too far from Eastwell, a bit further from Bottesford,
and quite far from anywhere else, the main reason for visiting
Croxton Kerrial is for the remarkable set of benches with
their decorated ends.
There are 45 of these benches (the largest set in Leicestershire).
They date from before the Reformation (1534) and are believed
to have come from Croxton Abbey at the time of the Dissolution
(the years after the Reformation).
There are a variety of designs, including animal and human
faces, and there is a brief guide in the church explaining
what is what.
