Memories of Leicester City FC's 1949 Cup RunIn the 1948/9 football season Leicester City FC famously beat the all conquering Portsmouth team in the semi-final of the FA Cup and moved on to Wembley to face Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final. As Foxes fans will know, they lost 1-3. In 1987 Ted Jelly, Charlie Adam, Norman Plummer and Jimmy Harrison, all members of Leicester City FC's 1949 squad, were interviewed by the Leicester Oral History Archive. These interviews were edited onto a cassette called 'Up for the Cup'. The original interviews, and 'Up for the Cup', can be listened to at the Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland, but you can listen to an extract here. To coincide with the recent exhibition at Snibston celebrating 125 years of Leicester City FC, 'From Shed to Stadium - 125 Years of Leicester City Football Club', we thought we would present a few clips from these interviews to give a flavour of what happened. Press play on the player below to hear Ted Jelly, Charlie Adam and Norman Plummer talking about the semi-final victory over Portsmouth.
