Collection history

In 2006 the East Midlands Economic Network Ltd received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run an oral history project which aimed to capture voices from the peoples of Belgrave. The result is an archive of interviews with over 80 people which covers many aspects of life in the Belgrave area since 1945. The transcripts of these interviews have now been published as 'Tales of Belgrave' while a summarised version is available as 'Belgrave Memories'.

What the collection contains

The collection includes interviews on a range of aspects associated with the Belgrave area of Leicester since 1945, including childhood, housing, work, community, migration, changing demographics. Interviewees include local politicians, people who have lived in Belgrave all their lives, and relative newcomers to the area.
