Slang is intertwined with our everyday language, even if we do not realise it. It is even more commonplace on the internet, especially due to the popularity of social networking sites and instant messengers which allow people to communicate. This slang dictionary is a study of slang that is used on these websites and messengers; it therefore reflects the universal and sometimes bizarre language which inhabits the web. It is by no means definitive but it displays a wide sample of terms that are used in everyday internet conversations.
I have collected my information from people aged 19 - 23 who are situated all over the world.
I have attempted to include as much information about the terms as I could, however some etymologies remain unknown due to the fact that slang terms can be used for an indefinite amount of time before they are recorded.
