Professor Martin Parker

Professor Martin Parker Returns to the University of Leicester

Martin Parker will rejoin the University as Professor of Management in September. For the past two years he has been Professor of Organisation Studies at the University of Warwick. Professor Parker worked at Leicester in the School of Management from 2003 – 2010, having previously been employed by Staffordshire and Keele universities.

On returning to the University Professor Parker said, “I'm really pleased to be coming back. Management at Leicester has an unique reputation for its heterodox and interdisciplinary work. At a time when many other schools appear to be assuming that it is business as usual, I want to work with colleagues who understand the importance of the challenges that face in the future.”

Martin has a particular interest in various meanings of the word ‘culture’ and is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Organization: The Critical Journal of Organization, Theory and Society.

Over his career Martin has worked on a variety of topics, including social and organisational theory, market managerialism and higher education, culture and popular culture, utopianism, conspiracy theory, the Apollo space programme, business ethics, critical management studies and alternative organisations. His last book, on Robin Hood, pirates and outlaws was Alternative Business, published by Routledge in 2011.

Martin is currently working on a Handbook of Alternative Organizations with George Cheney, Valerie Fournier and Chris Land which is to be published by Routledge next year.
