Terms of Reference

1. To be responsible to the Senate for:

a) implementing and monitoring the operation of the Learning and Teaching Strategy by overseeing and coordinating activities at Faculty level;
b) identifying the necessary supporting provision (in academic services, and student development and support services);
c) monitoring the use of resources in the context of the Learning and Teaching Strategy;
d) advising on preparations for external reviews of curricula and teaching;
e) disseminating best practice.

2. In pursuance of these responsibilities the Committee shall be responsible for:

a) evaluating the outcomes of external reviews of the University’s teaching provision jointly with the Academic Review Committee;
b) identifying opportunities for enhancement, e.g. support of generally applicable learning and teaching initiatives;
c) preparing guidelines on the implementation within programmes of study of each aspect of the Learning and Teaching Strategy.

3. The Committee shall be responsible for ensuring that any matter it may be transacting, which has implications for the work of the Research Committee and/or the Board of Graduate Studies is drawn to the attention of the relevant body.

Membership

a) A Pro-Vice-Chancellor (designated by the Vice-Chancellor) (Chairman).
b) Deans of the Faculties
c) One representative of each Faculty, nominated by the Dean of the Faculty
d) One lay member of Council appointed by Council.
e) The Academic Affairs Officer of the Students' Union
f) Up to three members co-opted by the Committee for specific purposes and/or because of special expertise.

In attendance:

The Academic Registrar, the Librarian, the Director of the Educational Development and Support Centre, the Director of the Staff Development Centre, the Director of the Computer Centre, the Director of AVS. Others by invitation.
