1 Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is the Web browser available on the CFS service. When you log on to the CFS service you can run Internet Explorer from the Quick Launch toolbar. The University's home page at http://www.le.ac.uk/ will be displayed and will be similar to the following:

INSTALLING VERSION 7 OF INTERNET EXPLORER ON PRIVATE CFS CLIENTS
Internet Explorer 7 is now available on all PCs in open access areas and it is available for installation on private CFS clients in departments.
To install version 7 on a private CFS client log on to the CFS service and select start | All Programs | Install CFS Software and then select Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 - Upgrade. Next click on Run and the installation will begin.

2 Office 2007
Office 2007 is mandatory software for all users of the CFS service. To access the Office 2007 programs (Access, Excel, InfoPath, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher or Word) click on the start button and select All Programs | Office 2007:

PLEASE NOTE: The Office Shortcut Bar is no longer provided on the Windows XP desktop. However, you can customise the Start menu or the Quick Launch toolbar to quickly open any Office program, file, or folder.

CUSTOMISING THE START MENU FOR OFFICE 2007
To add an Office program to the Start menu
On the Start menu, click on All Programs and then click on Office 2007. Right-click on the Office program you want to add to the Start menu, and then click on Pin to Start menu. Repeat these steps to add more programs.
To add a file or folder to the Start menu
In My Computer or Windows Explorer, click on the file or folder you want to add, and then drag it to the Start menu.

To add an Office program, file, or folder to the Quick Launch toolbar
In My Computer or Windows Explorer, locate the program, file, or folder you want to add. Click on the program and then drag it to the Quick Launch toolbar.

3 Outlook 2007
Outlook 2007 is part of Microsoft's Office 2007 collection of programs and is used to send and read email. It also provides you with an online calendar which you can share with your colleagues.
You can run Outlook 2007 from the Quick Launch toolbar when you log on to the CFS service, you will see a screen similar to the following:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING
DELETED ITEMS FOLDER:
Outlook 2007 is initially set to empty your Deleted Items folder when you exit and will display a message "Are you sure you want to permanently delete all the items and subfolders in the Deleted Items folder?". To change these default settings select Tools|Options and click on the Other tab. [1] To turn off automatic emptying of the Deleted Items folder clear the "Empty the Deleted Items folder upon exiting" check box. [2] To turn the notification message off click on Advanced Options... and clear the "Warn before permanently deleting items" check box.
RECOVERING DELETED ITEMS:
When a message is permanently deleted it is stored on the central server for 14 days during which time it can be recovered. To do this, select the "Deleted Items" folder in the Navigation pane and then select Tools|Recover Deleted Items. In the list displayed select the message to be recovered and then click on the Recover Selected Items button.
OUTLOOK RULES:
If you edit any rules in Outlook 2007 you will be asked if you want to upgrade your rules. Warning: this is not reversible!
