Tom Matheson (group leader). I am broadly
interested in neuronal function in invertebrates. A current focus
is 'neuronal plasticity', which we address in the locust Schistocerca
gregaria. Between 1999 and 2005 I worked in the Department of Zoology,
University of Cambridge, latterly as a BBSRC Advanced Research Fellow.
I am now a Reader in Neurobiology.

Jan Ache spent 2
months in the group as a visiting Masters student in Feb/March 2009. Jan
worked on biomechanics of aimed limb
movements in locusts.
Jan is continuing with his studies in Cologne.

|
|
|
Matt Sheehy
was a Senior Research Fellow and Researcher Co-Investigator on a BBSRC
project that addressed neuronal plasticity and ageing in solitarious and gregarious
locusts. Matt left the group in Feb 2009.

DaeEun Kim
joined the group in April 2006 as a postdoctoral research associate
on a BBSRC grant, and worked on modelling aimed limb movements.
He obtained a lectureship in Jan 2007 and moved to Yonsei University
in South Korea.

Julia Stalleicken
joined the group in January 2006 as a postdoctoral research associate
on a BBSRC grant, and was involved in analysing plasticity of aimed limb movements.
She finished her contract in Jan 2007

Keri Page joined the group as
a Ph.D. student in January 2002, handed in her thesis
in May 2005, and passed her viva in June 2005. Keri worked on limb targeting in locusts, particularly neuronal
plasticity of proprioceptive feedback control.
Keri is now working in the Knowledge Transfer Department of
the Scottish Association for Marine Science.

John Young joined the group as
a Ph.D. student in October 2000, submittted his thesis in Feburary
2004 and passed his viva in August 2004. John analysed how temperature
affects neuronal function in marine invertebrates including
the Antarctic isopod Glyptonotus antarcticus.
After his Ph.D. John worked for the Royal Institution
of Great Britain on the 2004 'Christmas
lectures' series of broadcasts. The lectures, titled To
the end of the Earth: surviving Antarctic extremes, were given
by Professor Lloyd Peck of the British Antarctic Survey.
Since January 2005 John has been working as a
postdoctoral research associateship in the Department of Pharmcology,
University of Oxford.

Jure Zakotnik worked here for
2 months in January and February 2002 writing image recognition
software to automate our analyses of insect movements. He subsequently
carried out his Ph.D. at the University of Bielefeld, Germany, in
which he analysed and modelled aimed limb movements of locusts. This
work was carried out under the supervision of Dr Volker Dürr
as part of our ongoing collaboration on this project. Jure passed his PhD
viva in June 2006, and is currently working as an IT consultant.
