Figure 5: Variegation Phenotype of the iae1 Mutant

Typical wild-type and increased Ac excision 1-1 (iae1-1) mutant Arabidopsis plants (left and right, respectively). The plants were grown on streptomycin-containing medium for two weeks. Each green sector corresponds to a single Ac excision event. The iae1-1 mutant shows a 550-fold increase in the average number of Ac excision sectors per cotyledon compared with the wild-type progenitor line. The wild-type plant shown is of the iae progenitor line, and both plants thus carry exactly the same SPT::Ac T-DNA insertion.
