ImageJ is a public domain image processing and analysis program written in Java. It is freely available (http://imagej.nih.gov/ij/index.html) and used by many scientists all over the world. ImageJ is written by Wayne Rasband, who is a Special Volunteer at the National Institute of Mental Health, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. There is a very active ImageJ community and ImageJ is continuously improved. Fiji (Fiji stands for Fiji is Just ImageJ) is a distribution of ImageJ focussed on 3D image reconstruction and analysis . The 'feel' and working of Fiji is as in ImageJ (see pictures below). During these two one day workshops you will get an introduction into the use of ImageJ/Fiji for digital image processing. During the different sessions we will also try to answer specific questions from participants concerning image analysis of their own data.

The workshops are focussed on scientists who want to use or have started to use ImageJ but are not sure how to make best use of it.

Introduction to ImageJ/FIJI; Monday 19 December
A one day introduction workshop for ImageJ/FIJI. The aim of this day is to familiarise you with ImageJ. During this day there will be lectures and hands-on sessions on how to use ImageJ/FIJI for analysis of microscopy data and we will have a closer look at different plugins. Participants are advised to bring their own laptop with ImageJ installed for the hands-on sessions.

Writing macros in ImageJ; Tuesday 20 December
The introduction course will be followed by a one day workshop looking at automations using macros in imageJ/FIJI. The macro language is a powerful tool to analyse large data sets. During this workshop we will look how to select a directory, how to write a macro to analyse the data and how to reuse code. Programming knowledge is not required to follow the workshop. Participants are advised to bring their own laptop with ImageJ installed for the hands-on sessions.
