Rationale
Most lecturers at the University of Leicester are used to working in face-to-face situations. Departments are very keen to benefit from innovative pedagogy. E-learning can be introduced into traditional teaching, whether on campus or at a distance , through large scale centralisation and provision of professional services.
A more incremental, more challenging model involves gradually engaging all members of staff, through the choice of easy to use technologies and investment in personal, course and departmental learning. This model has the advantages of developing capabilities for the longer term, keeping ownership with the academic departments and embedding and contextualizing the changes.
ADELIE seeks to ensure that ownership, of content and pedagogy, continues to lie directly within academic departments but recognises that a wide variety of mechanisms must underpin development. We see the concept of ‘embedding’ as beyond training and development of individuals. It is certainly beyond a naïve approach to innovation and jumping over chasms.
